Tree Stand Pulley
Here is a simple way to build a pulley that will help you hoist up your deer stand.
You'll Need:
- 2x4 (1 foot)
- U-Bolt with washers and nuts
- Pulley
- Wire or Rope
And here are the general steps to assembling the pulley:
- Drill two holes into the 2x4 that are the same width apart as the width of the U-Bolt.
- Slide the pulley onto the U-Bolt.
- Place the U-Bolt into the holes in the 2x4 and secure it with the washers and nuts.
- Slide enough wire or rope through the pulley so that both ends can touch the ground from where the pulley will be secured to the tree.
- Secure the 2x4 to a sturdy tree limb above your stand.
- Attach the wire or rope to the stand and hoist it up.
Precautionary notes:
While it is possible to use nails to secure the 2x4 to a tree branch, there is a chance of pulling them out and having your gear come crashing down. Ratchet straps are a more secure method. Also, no matter what you do, do not stand directly under the pulley while you are hoisting the stand. Stay far enough away so that if anything breaks or falls, there is no chance of anything landing on you. Keep in mind to look out for other things than just your stand. The branch itself may fall and pull down other branches with it.
