Tree Stands For Hunting

Are you a hunter who is tired of trekking miles through the woods only to be greeted with overgrown vegetation that just keeps getting in your way? If so, you want to closely examine tree stands for hunting. Tree stands get you up off the ground and they give you an advantage. If you are unfamiliar with tree stands for hunting, you will soon realize that you have three main styles to choose from: climb-ons, hang-ons, and ladder tree stands. Which should you buy?

Climber Tree Stands for Hunting

These tree stands are also commonly referred to as climbing tree stands. As you can gather from the name, they are not just a seat or a platform, but a climbing device. How so? With climbing tree stands, your device is in two parts. These parts include the platform and the climber (also commonly referred to as just the seat). To get started, you fixate the platform against the tree, climb up with your seat, and then fixate that to the tree above the platform. The next step involves climbing into the seat and reaching above you to fixate the platform again. You keep repeating this process until you are at your desired height.

At first glance, this may seem like a huge hassle to get in and out of a tree, but it is a fairly easy process once you have done it a few times. Most importantly, the seat is typically a full seat (unlike the hang-ons that will be covered below). Most seats come with a full backrest and arm rests. These should all be cushioned to provide comfort and to reduce noise. Climbing tree stands for hunting are quick and easy; making it possible for you to move from one tree to the next.

Hang-On Tree Stands for Hunting

These stands are also commonly referred to as hanging tree stands. They are very similar to the above mentioned climb-on tree stands, but there is a bit less hassle involved. The device itself isn’t used to climb to the tree. Instead, you will get climbing aids (which should be included in your purchase). These climbing aids will enable you to climb the tree, fixate your stand, and climb back down. As with climbing tree stands, you can climb to your desired height.

The main downside to these tree stands for hunting is that you get the basics. You don’t get a full seat. Rather you get a padded cushion to sit on; rarely is a backrest or arm rest included. While some hunters state these stands are still comfortable for sitting or standing for hours, you may dislike the lack of additional features. The good news is that they are easy to setup and take down, meaning you can easily move from tree to tree.

Ladder Tree Stands for Hunting

Ladder tree stands for hunting are often designed for property owners or hunters who have long-standing agreements with property owners to use their land for hunting. Since you get a full sized metal ladder, it takes time and extra hands to get these tree stands for hunting setup and installed. That is why most hunters leave them up for the season or for a couple of years once all installed and ready to go. Since mostly used as permanent fixtures, you do get more extra features. Some ladder tree stands are designed for two people; you are likely to find shortage shelves or saddle bags, and full seats.
